Welcome.
Years ago a friend of mine asked me, "I know you take a lot photos, but what kind do you enjoy taking the most?" I thought about it. Landscapes? Still life? I was surprised that I didn't have a quick answer. So I said, "Well, I just got back from a trip lets take a look and see."
We started going through the photos and out of about 200 there couldn't have been more than 15 without a person in them. And the vast majority had people as the primary subject. I obviously had my answer.
For things that are so physically similar, people are unbelievably different. What makes portrait photography so rewarding is finding the differences that define a person, or a group of people, and highlighting them in a photo that was captured in less than a second.
So there is my motivation. All of my portrait sessions are built from the ground up for each subject. I prefer to work on location as it adds even more to the individuality, but sometimes working in the studio is the right approach. Have a look at some samples of my previous work by clicking on the photo to the left. And if you're interested I would love to talk about a session for yourself or someone close to you.
